In one of the world’s largest drug seizures, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) confiscated nearly 2,988.22 kg of heroin at Mundra port in Gujarat. The seized consignment, disguised as semi-processed talc stones, had been imported by Aashi Trading Company, based in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh.

- Origins and Route:The heroin originated from Afghanistan, known for its extensive poppy cultivation, and was shipped from Bandar Abbas Port in Iran to Mundra Port.

- 1,999.58 kg was found in the first container.
- 988.64 kg was found in the second container.
- Presence of Experts:Forensic experts from Gandhinagar confirmed the presence of heroin after inspecting the containers.

- Seizure Under NDPS Act:The contraband was seized under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS Act), India’s primary anti-drug trafficking law.
