India has successfully tested its Anti-Satellite (ASAT) missile, becoming the fourth nation after the US, Russia, and China to achieve this milestone. Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the successful destruction of a Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite, calling it a significant achievement in the country's space power capabilities.
The test, conducted under Mission Shakti on March 27, 2019, was completed in just three minutes. The missile, developed by India's Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), was launched at a live satellite in low-earth orbit. The test was carried out in Earth's lower atmosphere to prevent any space debris from being generated.
In his address to the nation, PM Modi stated, "India has entered its name as an elite space power," highlighting the country's growing space prowess. Mission Shakti is expected to enhance India's defense capabilities, ensuring national security and contributing to global peace. This achievement positions India among the top nations in space technology, reinforcing its role as a powerful space superpower.
