At dawn on Saturday, heavily-armed Pakistani terrorists, suspected to belong to the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) group, attacked the Indian Air Force base in Pathankot, Punjab. A fierce gunbattle followed, lasting five hours.
The attack left three security personnel, including an IAF Garud commando, dead. Four terrorists were also killed. Despite their efforts, the attackers failed to breach the base’s defenses near the Pakistan border, thanks to an effective security response.
This assault came just a week after PM Modi's surprise visit to Lahore, with Modi condemning the attack as a threat to India's development and humanity.
