Ahead of Prime Minister Modi's visit to Jammu and Kashmir and the upcoming elections, militants launched a daring pre-dawn attack on an Army camp in Uri, Baramulla district, killing 11 security personnel, including a Lieutenant Colonel. The attack occurred at around 3:10 AM at the Mohra Army camp in Uri tehsil, located about 20 km from the Line of Control (LoC). In the fierce encounter, six militants were also killed.
The assault, which targeted the Army camp, also led to the deaths of three policemen. The attack comes just days before the third phase of the Jammu and Kashmir elections, scheduled for December 9. In addition to the Uri attack, militants also targeted a police party in Shopian, while a top Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commander was killed in a separate encounter.
These coordinated assaults further heighten security concerns in the region as the election period approaches.
