Over 300 personnel from Tamil Nadu Police and the Coast Guard (Eastern Region) have initiated "Operation Amla," a 48-hour emergency preparedness drill across 13 coastal districts of the state. The exercise began on June 20, spanning the eastern coastline from Chennai to Kanyakumari.
As part of the operation, police officials acting as 'terrorists' are attempting to infiltrate South India via boats near Rameswaram, testing the readiness of their colleagues. Highway patrolling on the East Coast Road and security at Chennai airport have been significantly increased, with an additional 150 officers deployed.
Equipped with advanced technology and devices, participating officers are focusing on key locations that attract large crowds. The drill aims to evaluate and strengthen the region’s response to unexpected security threats, ensuring better coordination and preparedness among the forces. The operation is set to conclude on June 22.
