India successfully test-fired the 290-km range BrahMos supersonic cruise missile from the guided-missile frigate INS Tarkash off Goa’s coast. The missile executed a high-level 'C' maneuver and hit its target precisely, showcasing its capabilities.
Launched at 11:00 a.m. as part of the Acceptance Test Firing (ATF), the trial validated the ship’s weapon systems. INS Tarkash, a Talwar-class frigate commissioned in November 2012, is equipped with advanced missile systems, torpedoes, and anti-submarine rockets.
BrahMos, jointly developed by India and Russia, can carry a 300-kg conventional warhead and reaches speeds of 2.8 Mach. With its stealthy vertical-launch configuration, the missile enhances the warship's operational capabilities. Variants of the BrahMos are being developed for land, sea, and submarine deployment.
